Mission

Our Mission

Artificial intelligence is rapidly evolving from isolated predictive models into interconnected systems operating across organizations, networks, scientific infrastructure, and autonomous environments. As these systems exchange information, retrieve external knowledge, invoke software tools, and make increasingly autonomous decisions, accuracy alone is insufficient. They must also remain secure, privacy-preserving, resilient, explainable, and accountable when their data, users, or computational environments cannot always be trusted. The TRUST Systems Lab conducts research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and distributed intelligent systems.

Approach

Research Philosophy

The TRUST Systems Lab holds that predictive accuracy is a necessary but insufficient condition for a trustworthy intelligent system. As AI systems become distributed, autonomous, and agentic — retrieving external knowledge, invoking tools, and coordinating with other systems — they must also be secure against adversarial manipulation, resilient to failure and uncertainty, respectful of data privacy, explainable to the humans who rely on them, and accountable when things go wrong.

The lab pursues this through rigorous, reproducible research that bridges theory and systems practice — spanning secure and privacy-preserving distributed intelligence, AI security and digital forensics, and trustworthy autonomous and agentic AI — and through mentoring the next generation of researchers who will build and defend these systems.

Founder & Director, TRUST Systems Lab

Al Amin, Ph.D. is the Founder and Director of the TRUST Systems Lab, an independent research initiative at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and distributed intelligent systems. His long-term goal is to build the TRUST Systems Lab — the Trustworthy, Resilient, Unified, Secure & Transparent Intelligent Systems Laboratory — around three interconnected research thrusts: secure and privacy-preserving distributed intelligence; AI security, cyber defense, and forensics; and trustworthy autonomous and agentic AI.
